Here is the first item that needs to be addressed. The stating/BMX park and the various new placements of the soccer fields. Now if you have any concerns you can e-mail me so that I can give your concerns to Cathy. Here is a letter that she sent me.
"Please understand that this is only a preliminary proposal of a site for the statepark.
The proper channel to go through for information related to the statepark and Oquirrh Park, or to voice any concerns you may have, will be through me as the liaison between the community and Salt Lake County. It is my role to poll the community as well as the potential users of the facilities to gain an understanding as to what the community/users want. If anyone feels that I am adequately answering questions and concerns, feel free to contact Chuck McDowell, chair of the Kearns Community Council. There have been well publicized town hall meetings regarding the skatepark. I understand that some of the community has concerns, I also understand and believe strongly that we are obligated to provide a safe place for our children to practice their sports.

So if we want something to happen then we need to ban together to voice our concerns concerning the placement of the parking lot and new soccer fields. Here is a picture of the proposed placements of the skate/BMX park.

I have two concerns with the proposal:
1) the skate park and the parking lot need to be switched: the park closer to 48th west so as to provide better visibility.
2) Opening Parkwood Drive and Loader to traffic to the soccer field parking lots will increase traffic in the development and put more people and property at risk. If the county want it that way then the county needs to increase police patrols and provide traffic bumps to keep the speed under control on Corriander, Parkwood and Loader.
I am not opposed to a skate park in the area, but I feel that it needs to be right on 4800 West in order to be self-policing. I understand the need for a water retention pond in the area, but the skate park needs to be as visible as possible from the main road.
I do like the proposed soccer fields that are west and north of the church. The access to the Impressions area is great.
If fields/parking lots are put in at the end of Parkwood, we need some traffic control methods in the neighboorhood. The volume of traffic that would bring would overwhelm the current situation. A stop sign at Coriander/Parkwood would be a MUST!
I would also request prominant lighting in the parking lot on Parkwood as a requirement for the project. (Not a promise that goes unfulfilled)The graffiti there is already bad enough as it it. Making it easier to get to without better security is a bad combination!
Thanks for you consideration!
Cathy,
I am looking at the map and taking a guess that the brown square is the bmx/skate area. I would really like to have more detail information on the streets that lead into the parking areas and the actual location of the proposed bmx.skate area so that I may make an appropriate comment as to the locations. Could you please add some additional detail to the map so that all who look at it can tell where everything really is located. Thanks Jeralyn
hello everyone the map on the proposed sites for skate park. and new location for soccer fields is just a preliminary drawing. so this is all the information we have at this time as soon as we get any up dates. we will make them on this site
Yes, I have to agree with anonymous. But from all my conversations with people involved with this project, this proposal is the project that is being pushed by the Kearns Community Council, Oquirrh Fitness Park, and the County. Unfortunatly, for the resident in the subdivision this is the reality. If it wasn’t, then we would have more that this one rendering of the proposal to share to the members of the community in the Park Wood Subdivision. Yes, I might be reacting to quickly to the only proposal that they have come up with, but there has not been due diligence by all parties involved to letting the citizen know about the changes that are going to affect all the residents in the subdivision. Who wants more traffic? I certainly do not. So all the residents need a chance to be heard... even if is a proposed rendering by the County.
We love the idea of the skate park. We seem to have a lot of kids skating in the neighborhood streets, which is a danger to themselves and others. These kids deserve a place to safely practice and have fun. We also agree that there would have to be some modifications made to our neighborhood streets to keep the increased traffic from endangering our kids. We also agree with the need to move the skate park closer to the road and to ensure proper lighting of the park.
I agree with one of the comments made about the legiability of the only map. It is difficult to make any real comments when the map is difficult to understand. I am located on Vista Point Drive and have several concerns. Is the map indicating that there will also be a through street through Vista Point Drive off of impressions,to the new park development?
